Thank you to the people, businesses, and organizations that helped make the Tour for the Shore a resounding success!
In August, 2012, Clean Ocean Action (COA), in partnership with dozens of businesses and organizations, led a “Tour for the Shore” where Ocean Adventurer Margo Pellegrino and COA attorney Sean Dixon canoed and cycled (respectively), from Cape May, NJ to Montauk, NY over 15 days to raise awareness for a Clean Ocean Zone. Based on this unprecedented campaign, the COZ is knocking at the door of Congress! Check out this website for information on the COZ, a recap of the Tour for the Shore, and information on how you can help make the COZ a reality and get your club, town, or representative to support the COZ!!
To help raise public awareness and participation for the Clean Ocean Zone, traveling by outrigger canoe and bicycle at the peak of the summer season, Margo Pellegrino and Sean Dixon journeyed concurrently from Cape May, New Jersey to Montauk, New York from August 10 – 24, 2012.
After a combined 25 days of motion for the ocean, Margo and Sean had traveled over 850 miles – 300 by sea and 550 by road.
Participation in the tour from coalition organizations, businesses, and individuals was essential; over the course of the tour, rallies, campaign and media events were held – garnering support from everyone on the beaches, boardwalks, and boats along the coast:
- Citizens joined Margo and Sean, rallied for the COZ, and combed the beaches talking about a clean ocean!
- Businesses dontated supplies, hosted bar nights and meet-ups, and signed on in official support of the Clean Ocean Zone!
- Organizations from the big to the small helped staff Tour events, spread the word, and turn out participants!
Thank you one and all for supporting the Tour for the Shore!
